A collaborative book project with a photography student, Kotryna had shot pictures of a village in her home country of Lithuania. She wanted to tell the story of the village of Dubininkai who’s population has dwindled to 5. It’s a simple, yet beautiful story of the people who live there and their way of life. It is supported by striking photographs full of color and texture. I felt it was important to have the text in Lithuanian and English because one of the reasons why the population has shrunk is because of the lure of the big city and influences primarily of western, English-speaking cultures. I chose to print the Lithuanian in 50% black as a contrast to the strong English and as a physical representation of the fading of the simple way of life that has run the village for so many generations.
